The Beginning

I am starting this blog to document my journey of attempting to join the ‘5am’ club. I had to ask myself, is it possible for a busy, lazy person to change her day to day in order to get up at 5am and ‘change her life’? Maybe. Also, yes, people can be busy and lazy. I am the type of person that has all the willpower to start a project and give up after a month, maybe two months at a push. Some projects include:

  • Codecademy – lets be real, I am not cut out for coding. This was a bit of a financial setback but one I try and forget about.
  • Craftiosity – this one worked better, I did this for a while, making sure I finished each craft box in the month I got it. Then I started to abandon them to the point the craftiosity boxes were creating an extra layer of insulation in our house.
  • Photography – a £500 camera later, and I have never taken it off automatic.
  • Exercise, meditation, taking vitamins, house projects, saving money, counting calories, going to bed at a specific time with a routine, getting up early, drinking enough water…the list goes on and on.
(an accumulation of crafts that I still have to complete)

It all started with a revolutionary bath. Soaking in the tub, I realised I can be a better me, and to do so, I need a new fad. Something I can jump on the bandwagon and give it a go. Hence trying to join the ‘5am’ club. I haven’t read the book (yet), but after a few google searches, I think I get the picture. Go to bed early, get straight up at 5am, 20 minutes of exercise, 20 minutes of reflection/meditation, 20 minutes of learning. I think my aim to start with will be to not hit that snooze button or just turn my alarm off all together. Apparently, the first 22 days are the absolute worst, so I am ready for the challenge!

I know I have a few dates coming up where I might be going to bed later than I would want to be successful at this, but lets just see how it goes!

My main aim out of this is to feel better about myself; physically and emotionally and in every-other-way-ally (not much to ask really).

My aims for tomorrow morning (DAY ONE!)

  • Set an alarm at 5am and put my phone on the other side of the room so I have to get up
  • Immediately get dressed, wash my face and brush my teeth
  • Go for a walk
  • Meditate straight after the walk for 10 minutes
  • Read my book (currently reading ‘Wool’ by Hugh Howey) for 20 minutes with a coffee
  • …see what happens!
